19-Nortestosterone is an anabolic steroid used as a growth promoting agent in the production of meat. 19-Nortestosterone is frequently abused illegally in animal breeding. Whilst steroids result in a higher meat/fat ratio, there is the risk that residues will be left in meat products and be harmful to the consumer. The use of Nortestosterone and its derivatives is banned by the EC for use in livestock production.
The Randox Food Diagnostics 19-Nortestosterone ELISA test kit provides screening for Nortestosterone growth promoter residues in tissue and urine.
